Teadlaste Öö Festivali raames saab Jääaja Keskuses uurida, kuidas energia on kujundanud maailma läbi aja – elu tekkest, liustike liikumisest ja eluslooduse ellujäämisest kuni tänapäeva energiavalikute ja tuleviku kliimaküsimusteni. Päeva jooksul saab ise katsetada, arvutada ja arutleda.
As part of the Teadlaste Öö Festival, the Ice Age Centre invites visitors to explore how energy has shaped the world throughout time – from the emergence of life, the movement of glaciers and the survival of living organisms to today’s energy choices and future climate challenges. Throughout the day, visitors can experiment, calculate and discuss.

Jääaja Keskuse eriprogramm „Energia läbi jääaja: minevikust tulevikku“ seob keskuse põhiteemad – jääaja, kliima, looduse kujunemise ja inimese mõju keskkonnale – Teadlaste Öö festivali 2026. aasta teemaga „Energia“.
Programmi jooksul uurime, kuidas liustik kraapis, kandis ja vormis maastikku ning milliseid jälgi võib Eesti looduses märgata tänaseni. Samuti saab mängulise tegevuse kaudu mõelda sellele, kui palju toiduenergiat vajas mammut külmas keskkonnas hakkamasaamiseks.
Päeva teises pooles liigume tänapäeva ja tuleviku juurde. Arutleme energia tootmise, säästmise ja keskkonnamõju üle ning rollimängus saavad osalejad valida endale sobiva energia tootmise viisi, oma valikut põhjendada ja kaitsta.
Programm sobib peredele, kooligruppidele, noortele ja täiskasvanutele ning tegevused on üles ehitatud nii, et osalejad saavad ise katsetada, arvutada, arutleda ja ideid pakkuda.
The Ice Age Centre’s special programme “Energy through the Ice Age: from the past to the future” connects the centre’s main themes – the Ice Age, climate, the formation of nature and human impact on the environment – with the 2026 theme of the Teadlaste Öö Festival: “Energy”.
During the programme, we explore how glaciers scraped, carried and shaped the landscape, and what traces of their activity can still be seen in Estonia today. Through an interactive activity, visitors can also consider how much food energy a mammoth needed to survive in a cold environment.
In the second half of the day, we move towards the present and the future. We discuss energy production, conservation and environmental impact, and in the role-playing game, participants can choose an energy production method, explain their choice and defend their position.
The programme is suitable for families, school groups, young people and adults.

11:00–11:45 | Töötuba
Kui jää liigub: liustiku peidetud jõud
Praktilises töötoas uurime, kuidas liustik maastikku kujundab. Liiva, kruusa, kivide ja jää abil katsetame, kuidas jää kraabib, kannab, lihvib ja jätab maha jälgi, mida võib Eesti looduses märgata tänaseni.
12:00–12:40 | Mänguline töötuba
Kas sina suudaksid mammuti ära toita?
Kõik loomad on erinevad ja vajavad erineval hulgal toiduenergiat. Töötoas arutleme energia kulumise üle ning arvutame vajamineva toiduenergia kogust, arvestades elupaiga, liikumise ja ohtudega. Arutleme elu võimalikkuse üle jääajal.
13:00–13:50 | Juhitud ekskursioon
Energia ajamasin: ürgsest merest tulevikku
Ekskursioon viib sind rännakule läbi aja: kaugesse minevikku, tänapäeva ja võimalikku tulevikku. Uurime, kust energia tuli, kuhu see liikus ning kuidas energia jaotumine on mõjutanud kliimat, loodust ja inimest.
14:15–15:00 | Töötuba
Kui jää liigub: liustiku peidetud jõud
Praktilises töötoas uurime, kuidas liustik maastikku kujundab. Liiva, kruusa, kivide ja jää abil katsetame, kuidas jää kraabib, kannab, lihvib ja jätab maha jälgi, mida võib Eesti looduses märgata tänaseni.
15:30–16:30 | Rollimäng
Millise tuleviku valime?
Saad valida endale sobiva energia tootmise viisi ning oma valikut põhjendada, kaitsta ja argumenteerida. Ühiselt arutame, milline energialahendus sobiks tuleviku Eestile ning kuidas leida tasakaal looduse, inimeste ja tehnoloogia vahel.

Kõik loomad on erinevad ja vajavad erineval hulgal toiduenergiat. Töötoas arutleme energia kulumise üle ning arvutame vajamineva toiduenergia kogust, arvestades elupaiga, liikumise ja ohtudega. Arutleme elu võimalikkuse üle jääajal.

When ice moves: the hidden power of glaciers
In this hands-on workshop, we explore how glaciers shape the landscape. Using sand, gravel, rocks and ice, we experiment with how ice scrapes, carries and grinds, leaving traces that can still be seen in the Estonian landscape today.
12:00–12:40 | Interactive workshop
Could you feed a mammoth?
All animals are different and require different amounts of energy from food. In this workshop, we explore energy expenditure and calculate how much food energy is needed, taking into account habitat, movement and dangers. We discuss what it took to survive during the Ice Age.
13:00–13:50 | Guided tour
The energy time machine: from ancient seas to the future
The tour takes you on a journey through time: into the distant past, the present and possible futures. We explore where energy came from, where it moved, and how the distribution of energy has influenced climate, nature and people.
14:15–15:00 | Workshop

What future will we choose?
Choose an energy production method and explain, defend and argue for your choice. Together, we discuss which energy solution could be suitable for the Estonia of the future and how to find a balance between nature, people and technology.
